Michael Essien has reaffirmed the desire during his loan spell with Real Madrid to win as many trophies as possible.

The 29-year-old reunited with father figure Jose Mourinho on deadline day of the summer transfer window, joining for the 2012-13 campaign from Chelsea on a one-year loan. It’s a temporary switch he is keen to make the most of.

“While I'm here I hope to be able to help Real Madrid win trophies,” the midfielder told news agency EFE.

“I'm preparing myself to work very hard and I'll do everything within my power to make sure the team win the League again.”

The Ghanaian also commented on the Champions League draw that has pitted last year’s semi-finalists against Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund and Ajax.

“It’s the trophy that everyone wants to win. It's a very difficult group but with the players we have we can get through it.”
