Racing recruit Glasgow Rangers ace

Racing Santander have recruited Carlos Bocanegra on a season-long loan from Glasgow Rangers, reports Sky Sports.

The experienced USA international has played all seven of Rangers’ games this season, but has joined a number of stars in leaving the beleaguered Glasgow giants after the club’s demotion to the Scottish Third Division for financial irregularities.

Rangers signed the central defender from Saint-Etienne in 2011 after previous spells at Fulham and Rennes, following his decision to come to Europe in 2004.

However, although he has chosen to join Racing – another club with severe monetary problems after relegation last season and who have lost both their opening Segunda games – Bocanegra claims he is sorry to be departing Ibrox and is hopeful of one day returning to the club.

“It is strange to be leaving at such short notice because I was enjoying my time here,” he told Sky Sports News.

“I was club captain and it will be hard to leave, but that’s football and the deal is beneficial for both parties.

“I’m excited to be getting the opportunity to play in Spain, although it is only for a year and I hope to be able to return to Rangers.”
