Oltra: Depor now confident

Deportivo de La Coruna boss Jose Luis Oltra believes his team’s comeback to draw 3-3 at Valencia has reinforced confidence.

The Galicians turned a two-goal deficit into a valuable point gained at Mestalla and Oltra maintains it has shown that Depor belong on the big stage following last season’s promotion.

“This game showed us that we are a danger to any side and are able to compete in this category.

“We still need to improve but this result reinforces our confidence and security.” he asserted at the post-match Press conference.

The former Tenerife and Almeria Coach acknowledged his players made too many defensive errors in the first half and paid for it, although he congratulated them on their reaction after the restart.

“The match required us to do more than we did in the first half and we did that in the second.

“At half-time I told the players we had to cut out the mistakes at the back because we had already shown that in attack we could be dangerous.

“We were successful and managed to score three goals. It was a terrific point because few teams can come back from 3-1 down to a team like Valencia.”

Finally, he explained why goalkeeper Daniel Aranzubia was replaced by German Lux at half-time.

“He was in great pain, vomiting and with a lot of discomfort. We tried to treat him but he continued to be ill and it was better not to risk him.”
