Director of international relations at Real Madrid Emilio Butragueno has looked to clarify that Luka Modric’s arrival is not related to the team’s dip in form.
The midfielder sealed his protracted transfer to the club from Tottenham Hotspur this morning and was then introduced to the media by Butragueno.
The director denied that the timing or intention of the deal was in any way a reaction to the club’s draw and two defeats they have begun the season with.
“We had hoped for Luka to have been here before and yesterday it was finally closed. His arrival has nothing to do with the results, though,” reassured Butragueno.
“Real will be his home for the next five seasons. Hopefully more. We believe that with his talent and quality that he can help us to achieve our goals.”
