Leo calm after Rayo debut

Leo Baptistao has reflected on his notable Primera Division debut for Rayo Vallecano, but isn’t getting carried away.

The young Brazilian was handed a first League start by Paco Jemez and responded with an assist and an impressive goal himself to help Rayo defeat Real Betis on Saturday evening.

It also marked the end of a struggle for the player with a shoulder injury.

“Whilst I remember the good, the bad is something I’d prefer to forget,” Leo reflected today to reporters.

“It was a tough year for me and my family, but we got through it with the work and support of my colleagues and Rayo Vallecano too.

“I didn’t imagine [yesterday’s game] would go as well as it did in the end. The Coach gave me a lot of confidence and peace, told me what to do and at the end it counted.

“I’m excited [to have played], I want my space in the team, but will not lose my head. Further work with a lot of humility will get me a spot in the team.”
