Alex Song has been officially presented to the media today as a Barcelona player and admits that the move was a chance he couldn’t turn down.
The midfielder completed a €19m transfer from Arsenal yesterday, signing a five-year deal. Talking to the assembled media today, the player reflected on it all
“I arrive at the best team in the world and I’m happy to become a Barcelona player. A few weeks ago I expected this and it is something that only comes once in a lifetime,” he stated.
“I want to thank Arsene Wenger and Arsenal for allowing me to be here. This is a team of winners and champions and I hope to win titles
“When you arrive you realise it is a family club and I will not have any problems here.
“I have two sons who are both fans of Lionel Messi and when I told them I could come here, but was about to extend my contract, the truth is that I did not think about it. My kids are very excited.”
Song is expected to provide competition for Sergio Busquets as a defensive shield in front of the Barcelona back-line, but the Cameroonian says not necessarily.
“He’s the best in his position. Everyone has a high level and I do not arrive to take anyone’s job or position, including Busqeuts’. I have no preference for central midfield. I’ll play where the Coach sees fit.”
