Levante announce Karabelas capture

Levante have officially announced the signing of Nikolaos Karabelas from AEK Athens on a two-year contract.

The 27-year-old left-back has been brought in by Los Granotas boss Juan Ignacio Martinez to replace the departed Asier del Horno and arrives on a free transfer from the Greek club.

Karabelas, born in Pyrgos, began his professional career with Aris Thessaloniki, making his debut against Skoda Xanthi in 2000 aged just 16, but was eventually driven out of the club following alleged threats from fans after missing a penalty against rivals PAOK in a Greek Cup semi-final.

The Greece Under-21 international joined AEK in June 2009, where he linked up with former Aris boss Dusan Bajevic, and went on to figure in 70 League games as well as appearing in 14 Europa League matches with the capital club.
