Gago gets thumbs up from Banega

Valencia midfielder Ever Banega has greeted the news Fernando Gago will join him in Los Che's engine room next season with enthusiasm.

Gago has signed a four-year deal at the Mestalla following his move from Real Madrid and Banega says he is looking forward to sharing a dressing room with his countryman again.

“Fernando is one of the best people I know, he is a great guy, and we have played together a few times for the Argentine national team,” Banega told a Press conference at Valencia’s pre-season training camp in Marienfeld, Germany.

“He is also very good with the ball at his feet and is very intelligent. He makes the game easy.”

Gago’s move to Real Madrid from Boca Juniors in December 2006 opened the door to Banega to make the step up to Boca’s first team and since then the pair have won Olympic gold together in 2008 and also represented Argentina at the 2011 Copa America.

Banega is currently recovering from the fractured tibia he suffered in a freak car accident in February and is looking forward to a return to first-team action before the start of next season.

“The important thing is that things are going well and it won’t be long before I am able to return,” said the 24-year-old.

“Every day I think of when I will play at Mestalla again.”
