Barca want €8m for Afellay

Ibrahim Afellay now knows Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova sees him very much as a fringe player if he remains at the club next season.

A report in AS maintains the pair met last Monday and the Dutch international was made aware that if the Catalans receive an offer of around €8m for him then he will be allowed to leave the Camp Nou, with Inter, Arsenal, Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund, Schalke and Galatasaray all having shown an interest.

The 26-year-old winger joined Barca in January 2011 for €3m from PSV Eindhoven, but a serious knee injury suffered in training eight months later meant he was sidelined for more than seven months and made just four La Liga appearances last term.

With the €14m spent on signing Jordi Alba from Valencia, La Blaugrana director of football Andoni Zubizarreta now has €26m left of the €40m earmarked for new players at the start of the summer, and if he could obtain €8m for Afellay then it would go a long way to securing the quality central defender that Vilanova wants to bring in.
