€15m & Afellay for Mathieu?

Barcelona are looking for ways of signing Valencia’s Jeremy Mathieu without paying his release clause and the latest includes Ibrahim Afellay.

Mundo Deportivo reports that all the Mathieu transfer is missing is an agreement between the clubs as Mathieu wants to move to Camp Nou.

Valencia insist that Mathieu will only go for the €20m stipulated in his contract but Barca hope to tempt Los Che by offering €15m and Afellay.

It’s alleged that Mathieu has refused to train with Valencia in an effort to push the club into letting him go, and he didn’t take part in the club’s first pre-season friendly.

Valencia sporting director Rufete is to speak with Mathieu in an attempt to convince him to stay at Mestalla but the Frenchman is said to have his mind set on a move to Barca.

Rufete is also said to be looking for an attacking midfielder to add to the squad of new Coach Nuno and Afellay could fit the bill.

Afellay wants to stay in Spain but his days at Barca are numbered and a move to Valencia would suit all parties.

A resolution to the Mathieu saga is expected in the near future and the clubs could meet again, despite the increasing tension over the situation.
