Rodriguez move to Depor in doubt

Deportivo de La Coruna are having second thoughts over the loan signing of defender Alberto Rodriguez from Sporting Lisbon.

The Galicians had announced his incorporation on Tuesday subject to the 28-year-old centre-back undergoing a medical, but subsequent tests have not been encouraging as the Peruvian has suffered several injuries over the past two seasons, leaving Depor having to decide whether they will still go through with the deal.

President Augusto Cesar Lendoiro is understood to be considering renegotiating the operation with Sporting, although boss Jose Luis Oltra would like a verdict as soon as possible as he urgently needs a central defender to replace Diego Colotto, who has moved to Espanyol.

Rodriguez has been capped 38 times by his country since making his international debut in 2003, helping his nation to third place in the 2011 Copa America, but has been unable to make an impression at the Estadio Jose Alvalade since his arrival on a free transfer from Braga 12 months ago.
