Barcelona's Javier Mascherano says taking a salary reduction to move to the Camp Nou was the best decision of his life.
The Argentine international, who arrived from Liverpool two years ago as a midfield player but has since been converted into a central defender, is on the verge of renewing his contract with the Catalans until June 2016 and says he has never looked back.
“Reducing my salary was the best decision I have ever taken in my life because it allowed me to come to a club such as Barca,” explained 28-year-old to Jefecito.
Mascherano, signed for a fee of €24m, gave up part of his wages in order to facilitate the move and he is set to be rewarded with a new contract as an act of thanks on the part of La Blaugrana.
“I very much appreciate this gesture from the club and talks are at an advanced stage, so I don’t think it will be long before we reach a definite agreement,” he added.
