Diop a priority for Levante

Levante boss Juan Ignacio Martinez has placed Racing Santander midfielder Papakouli 'Papa' Diop at the top of his wanted list, reports Marca.

The 26-year-old Senegalese international is desperate to leave El Sardinero after the Cantabrians suffered relegation at the end of last season and with the club in a state of financial chaos, and he has already made it clear he would be on his way if former President Francisco Pernia and owner Ahsan Ali Syed retained their controlling interest in the club.

The interest from Levante, therefore, will be welcomed by the former Gimnastic de Tarragona, Tours and Rennes player, who also holds a French passport, and he is even prepared to forgo some of the money owed to him in wages so he is able to negotiate with other clubs.

Real Betis and Osasuna are also monitoring his situation at Racing, but Levante appear to have stolen a march on their rivals and can offer Diop the chance to play European football next season.
