Juanfran confident of Diop stay

Juanfran Garcia has made clear his belief that teammate Pape Diop will turn down interested clubs and stay with Levante this season.

The 27-year-old midfielder has reportedly received offers from a number of clubs including Greek side Olympiacos.

Even so, his teammate and current captain believes that his intention is to stay at Ciutat de Valencia.

“Pape is very happy. He knows that the team loves him, we are very good with him and get along very well,” Juanfran told reporters today.

“But, however it is resolved it will be good for the club, whether he stays here or goes. I hope that he stays because he is very important and contributes a lot.

“I spoke with him last week. I hope that it is resolved as soon as possible and I think it will be in the best way possible.”

The veteran was talking the day after Levante’s 0-0 draw at home to Sevilla.

“The image we presented here was nothing like that from seven days ago,” commented Juanfran in reference to last weekend’s 7-0 loss at Barcelona.

“It was a tough game for what had happened in Barcelona. We knew that our image was not as intended and we wanted to turn it around and I believe that we had.

“This is the line that the team has to follow. We have spoken of being competitive since I have been here and it has always been our strength and that is the way forward.”

Levante next travel to Rayo Vallecano on Friday.

“After that there is a break and so it would be important to get four points.”
