Villarreal have confirmed that midfielder Jonathan De Guzman has joined Swansea City on a season-long loan.
De Guzman, 24, who disappointed at recently-relegated Villarreal last term following an €8m move from Real Mallorca, had been involved in negotiations for two days regarding his future and was given permission by new Yellow Submarine boss Julio Velazquez to delay his return to pre-season training.
As a result, his next destination is the Premier League where he will link up with Michael Laudrup, who was appointed Swans boss last month and knows the Canadian-born Dutch Under-21 international from his time in charge at Mallorca.
Last year De Guzman played a total of 26 matches in all competitions for Villarreal, with just one goal scored in a Champions League game against Bayern Munich in the Allianz Arena.
Swansea have also snapped up central defender Jose Manuel Flores – known as Chico – who has cost €2.2m from Genoa and is another player Laudrup is familiar with, having spent the 2011-12 campaign on loan at Mallorca where he made 33 La Liga appearances.
