Arizmendi heading to Mallorca

Angel Javier Arizmendi will travel to Mallorca on Wednesday evening to finally complete his transfer to Los Bermellones, reports Marca.

The 28-year-old striker arrives from Getafe after spending the first half of last season on loan at Neuchatel Xamax, where he played under current Mallorca boss Joaquin Caparros, but along with three teammates was released from his contract by the Swiss club in January this year.

Arizmendi’s signing will bring to an end negotiations that have dragged on for several weeks, with both parties unable to agree terms for a player who started his professional career with Atletico Madrid and has since gone on to have spells with Racing Santander, Deportivo de La Coruna, Valencia and Real Zaragoza.

Able to play on the wing or as an orthodox frontman, 6ft 3in Arizmendi has represented Spain once when he came on as a substitute for the final 30 minutes of a 1-0 triumph against England at Old Trafford in February 2007.
