Spanish FA confirms intent on hosting World Cup, European Championships

Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has confirmed he wants Spain to host major football tournament finals in the coming years.

Rubiales spoke about the possibility of Spain hosting a major finals for the first time since the 1982 World Cup, while there have also been suggestions there could be a joint bid with Morocco.

“Spain wants to host a European Championship or a World Cup, we will fight for this but it must meet UEFA and FIFA requirements,” Rubiales said, in quotes carried by Marca.

“We know we must improve our infrastructure because a lot of our stadiums are outdated in relation to other leading nations around European and world football.

“If we were to obtain a big championship then we got get vital funding from government to help in this respect, and it would generate a lot of wealth of Spain on many levels.

“The relationship with Morocco? It is strong and they have fantastic infrastructure, they are always improving and we should look to them for our own progress.”
