‘600 games nothing for Messi’

Andres Iniesta claims Lionel Messi’s 600 Barcelona appearances will pale in comparison to “what he’ll end up achieving.”

Messi joined Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez in reaching the milestone during Barca’s 2-1 win against Sevilla on Saturday, and the midfielder backed his superstar teammate to break more ground.

“My injury? I felt good on the pitch and I’m happy about the three points,” he said after the game.

“We’re fine, but we always have things to improve on. Sevilla are a tough team to face because of how they play and their players.

“After they equalised, we kept going and took the lead again. We’re very happy that we keep picking up points. That’s what has to be done ultimately.

“Messi’s 600th appearance? It’s a lot of games and it’s very difficult to reach a figure like that, but the 600 games are certainly far below what he’ll end up achieving and hopefully [more appearances] can be accompanied by more trophies.

“Spain call-up? I talked to [Spain boss] Lopetegui about how I was feeling. The squad was drawn up in the morning and we trained in the afternoon.

“Training went well, so I’m able to go with them. It’s always important to be with the national team.”
