Cristiano Ronaldo’s five-game ban following his red card in the Spanish Super Cup has been upheld after a tribunal rejected Real Madrid’s appeal.
The Portuguese star was handed a four-game suspension for pushing referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea on top of the one-game sanction for his controversial second yellow card at the Camp Nou.
The Spanish football federation (RFEF) had already rejected an appeal from Los Blancos, who then turned to the Tribunal Administrativo del Deporte but this did not find any success.
“Another incomprehensible decision,” Ronaldo said on his Twitter account, voicing his displeasure.
“Injustices that will never bring me down. And like always I will return even stronger. Thanks to those who have supported me.”
The 32-year-old has already sat out two of his five-game ban – the return leg victory over Barcelona ahead of La Liga’s opening day 3-0 victory at Deportivo La Coruna.
He will miss the league games with Valencia, Levante and Real Sociedad but will return against Real Betis.
