Dani Carvajal believes Real Madrid could have handled Pepe’s departure better after the Portuguese defender spent ten years at the club.
The 34-year-old confirmed he was leaving the Bernabeu this summer after joining from FC Porto in 2007 but blasted the club for ‘not correctly’ handling his departure.
"He (Pepe) was here for 10 years, and he gave everything for this club,” Carvajal is quoted by Marca as telling Movistar+.
"It's a shame he wasn't able to have a game at the Bernabeu where he could have received the ovation he deserves, and also that his goodbye has ended up being a little grey."
The Portuguese defender is set to be replaced in Madrid’s squad by Jesus Vallejo, who is returning from a loan spell with Eintracht Frankfurt.
