Simeone ‘relaxed’ after Derbi defeat

Diego Simeone insists he is “relaxed” after Atletico Madrid’s 3-0 Derbi defeat to Real Madrid as “we can do something impossible next week”.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick on Tuesday left Atleti needing to overturn a three-goal deficit in their Champions League semi-final against Madrid, but Simeone made it clear his side had what it took to pull off the comeback.

“The first half wasn’t good from either side,” the Coach said after the game, reports UEFA.com.

“There was always danger but wrong passes were made by both. They scored, though. We had a chance with Gameiro but Navas saved it.

“We had the ball in the second half but didn’t create anything and they exploited the space well.

“Football is a marvellous game and anything can happen. I still think we have a chance of going through.

“I told the side that we need to get over it, forget about it, football is marvellous. It’s very very hard, but this is football.

“These things can happen. We are going to try until the very, very end, until the final whistle is blown in the second leg.

“They were better and you have to congratulate them. they took their chances. We have an important game on Saturday and then we need to look for our chances next week.

“I’m relaxed. We’re going to try and do something practically impossible next week. We’re Atlético Madrid and maybe, just maybe, we can do it.”
