Lucho pays Masche tribute

Luis Enrique paid tribute to “top player” Javier Mascherano after his historic penalty during Barcelona’s 7-1 demolition of Osasuna on Wednesday.

Mascherano ended a 319-game wait to score his first Barca goal, albeit from the penalty spot, prompting Enrique to confess that he responded to the fans’ wishes by letting the Argentine run up.

“I’m very happy and even more so with the performances of the players that have played less this season,” the Coach said after the game.

“We only made one small mistake in the Osasuna goal. Luckily, it was resolved quickly.

“In any case, I don’t have anything special to say about the game or anything.

“Mascherano taking the penalty? Seeing as Leo wasn’t playing, I didn’t know who was going to take it either.

“I then saw how the Animation Stand asked for Masche to take it, and Pique was quick to tell him.

“The truth is that the goal was a mere anecdote because his mission is not to score goals.

“We’re talking about a top player, who has given us and continues to give us a lot of things.”
