Former RM winger Drenthe retires

Former Real Madrid winger Royston Drenthe has announced his retirement from football aged just 29 to concentrate on a career in rap music.

The Dutchman made 65 appearances across three seasons at the Bernabeu between 2007 and 2010 after Los Blancos signed him from Feyenoord at the same time they brought in Wesley Sneijder from the Eredivisie, before the Rotterdam-native was farmed out on loan to Hercules and later Everton.

“I’ve quit football, because I’ve made my choice. I have really stopped,” Drenthe is reported as saying.

The 29-year-old went on to have spells with Sheffield Wednesday and Reading whilst also enjoying stints in Russia and Turkey, but after he was released by UAE Pro League side Baniyas in January 2016, he failed to find another club.

Drenthe will now focus on his rap career under the name Roya2faces.
