Mikel holds Valencia talks

Valencia sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch has confirmed the club have held talks with Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel over a transfer.

The Nigerian midfielder has not featured for Chelsea this season and will become a free agent in the summer, meaning the London Blues would be likely to let him go at a bargain price in the January transfer window.

"In the case of Obi Mikel, with Chelsea's permission, I met with him in London on Christmas day,” explained Garcia Pitarch.

"I informed him of the option [of joining Valencia]. He said he would think about it."

The 29-year-old has also been linked to Inter Milan, Marseille and clubs in the Chinese Super League, as his departure from Stamford Bridge looks to be imminent.

The Nigerian has made 374 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Norwegian side Lyn in 2006, scoring six times.

Los Che are keen to reinforce their squad this January despite the departure of boss Cesare Prandelli, with Juventus forward Simone Zaza also thought to be close to a deal.
