Enrique rues ‘jug of cold water’

Barcelona boss Luis Enrique admitted Real Madrid’s equaliser was like “a jug of cold water” but refused to blame Arda Turan for conceding the fatal free kick.

Arda’s foul led to the free kick that Sergio Ramos scored from at the death, earning Madrid a 1-1 draw in Saturday’s Clasico, but Enrique made it clear “everything we do, we do together”.

“We’re disappointed because I think we deserved to win for all we did, hence the disappointment, but I think football wasn’t fair with us,” the Coach said after the game.

“The second half was completely different for us: We played more between the lines, we found our forwards, got the midfield involved, created chances and went ahead on the scoreboard.

“We were almost able to close the match twice through Neymar and Messi, but this isn’t a question of justice or injustice, they then equalised in the 90th minute.

“It was a jug of cold water for everyone, but we’re only 14 games into the season. There’s still many to go.

“Arda’s foul? The orders of the Coaches are clear and precise, but those who are put under difficulty are the players. It’s easy to say but difficult to do and control.

“We’d defended our aerial game well, but here, everything we do, we do together.

“We can always improve in everything, but it’s true that our numbers at home are far from where they need to be for us to be champions.

“Our only hope is to win every game and put pressure, like [Madrid] did to us last season.

“For that we need to improve our performance levels at home in terms of numbers.

“Iniesta? He’s a unique player, for this reason he’s world-class.

“I think his contribution was perfect, when our opponents weren’t so fresh, with clarity, vision and hard work. I’m very happy that he’s re-joined the group.”
