Garitano: Depor showing improvement

Deportivo la Coruna boss Gaizka Garitano believes his team are moving in the right direction following Monday’s 1-1 draw with Valencia.

A Rodrigo wonder strike 10 minutes after half-time rescued a point for Los Che, who had fallen behind to Emre Colak’s header just before the break, but Garitano believes his team improving after a poor start to the season.

“This game had many different phases but most of us saw a Depor that is close to what we want,” maintained Garitano.

“We have emerged stronger despite not getting the win against a great team. In lots of things we were the better team.

“When we don’t play well we lose games and when we do it takes a lot for us to win, but we have improved.

“We needed the intensity we showed. But it’s been like that in the majority of our matches, although today we played football.”

Garitano justified the change of goalkeeper against Valencia, having dropped German Lux in favour of debutant Przemyslaw Tyton, who was signed from Stuttgart in the summer.

“We are happy with ‘Poro’ (Lux) but we came into this game having conceded eight goals. The goalkeeper is not to blame but you are always looking to progress.

“Tyton did well and it could have been anyone, so I’m relaxed about it.”
