Sevilla President Jose Castro has confirmed that Monchi will remain as sporting director, while Grzegorz Krychowiak is close to joining Paris Saint-Germain.
Monchi announced at the beginning of June that he sought a new challenge, providing another club paid his release clause, but Castro insists the case is closed as far as the 47-year-old staying at Sevilla is concerned.
“We don’t have any bad words to say about our former Coach [Unai Emery],” he was quoted as saying by AS.
“Our communication department worked with him for his farewell, but for whatever reason he didn’t want one.
“He satisfied our aspirations and our doors will remain open to him if he wishes to say goodbye, however he wants.
“[On Monchi], we all know what happened in the 24 hours that our sporting director made the decision [to leave].
“He’s continued with his work and involvement. He’s worked since that day, especially so in the planning [of the first team].
“Monchi comes into my office every 20 minutes to talk to me, so for me it’s settled [that he stays].”
Krychowiak has been heavily linked with following Emery to PSG in recent weeks, and Castro conceded the midfielder was probably on his way to the French capital, although not for the €45m that had been speculated.
“There are negotiations [between PSG and Krychowiak], but nothing has been confirmed,” he continued.
“We never talk about numbers [to the Press], but it’ll be for a large amount, which will make it easier for us to keep those who don’t want to leave.
“We won’t sell him for his release clause, but it’ll be for a very significant amount that will help the club.
“Players are sold for prices that the board and sports management consider appropriate.”
