Cristiano Ronaldo accepts his penalty miss against Austria was “my mistake” but remains confident Portugal will reach the Euro 2016 knockout stages.
Ronaldo’s penalty towards the end of Portugal’s 0-0 draw with Austria on Saturday sent goalkeeper Robert Almer the wrong way yet cannoned off the post to leave the Real Madrid forward without a goal in two matches and his country needing a win against Hungary next week.
“We have to keep going. The penalty that I missed was my mistake, but these things happen in football,” he said after the game.
“I’m convinced that Portugal will raise their level and qualify. Although I’m disappointed, I find myself in a pretty good way.”
