Gerard Pique can’t imagine himself playing for a club other than Barcelona and he’ll retire when he’s not wanted anymore.
Pique did have a spell with Manchester United after quitting Camp Nou in 2004, returning four years later, and told Onda Cero’s Al Primer Toque that he won’t wear another shirt in his career.
“I can’t see myself in another side. When I’m not of use here I’m going to hang up my boots, I’m going to leave, but Barca has been my life and I want to retire here,” he confirmed, AS reports, before discussing Marc Bartra’s situation at the club.
“I’m very angry about that because I see myself when I was younger in him, in how he is, his playing style is similar, and he wants to take on the world, do everything. I wish him well, I think he’ll do very well [at Borussia Dortmund]. He’s going there to show what a good player he is and we’ll see if we’re together again before I retire.
“I left and came back and I always say ‘never close the door.’ Obviously, now he thinks of Borussia and he has to make a living so we’ll see in the future.”
Pique came through La Masia around the same time as Lionel Messi and the defender also discussed the Argentine, both as a player and the legal issues which he is currently facing.
“I’ve had the good fortune to know him since he was 13. He’s from another planet, an alien. But we’ll try to enjoy the years he has left. He’s part of the club’s heritage, part of the sport’s, and we’ll enjoy him as much as possible,” Pique continued, moving on to his tax evasion trial.
“It’s difficult, obviously I haven’t been through that on a personal level but I imagine it must be. In the end he has people around him to deal with this in the best possible way. I’m sure these problems are being solved and everything will be resolved in future.”
Pique also passed comment on a Spain colleague who was formerly at Barca and could be again, Celta Vigo’s Nolito.
“It’s not for me to say if he should come to Barca but for his price and what’s being paid on the market, he looks like a bargain. See what he’s doing for the national team. I don’t know if in the end we’ll sign him or not, that’s not my job, but he would be a great player for Barca,” Pique noted.
