Enrique not interested in Tamudazo

Luis Enrique rejected talk of a ‘Tamudazo’ as Barcelona host Catalan rivals Espanyol in their penultimate La Liga game.

Espanyol icon Raul Tamudo infamously denied Barca of the title in 2007 when he scored at Camp Nou in the penultimate game of the season, levelling the match and sending the title to Real Madrid, but Enrique ignored the prospect of a repeat.

“I don’t remember anything from a month ago. I don’t care about something from years ago. The only thing that concerns me is to be better than they are and to win the game,” Lucho told reporters, according to AS, and didn’t want to reflect on this season’s derbies either.

“I don’t have any interest in talking about that. It’s useful since the Coaches are the same, although there are some variants as before they were defending in 4-4-2 and now 4-1-4-1. We have to focus on our strength, which is football. We think the Barca fans know the need to be animated in the stands.

“There are games with special circumstances. And if you add to that the difficulty that there are two games until the end of the season, it complicates everything. It’s a major challenge.”

Barca could however be crowned champions on Sunday, if they win, Atletico Madrid lose at already-relegated Levante and Madrid to anything other than win at home to Valencia.

“It’s one of the options, why not? It might not happen but you have to focus on winning the points to see if you can be champions. What concerns me is that the team is dedicated to playing football. The only thing we can control is our game. We can’t be focused on what happens elsewhere. There’s time,” he noted.
