Escriba: Getafe are growing

Fran Escriba believes his Getafe team are on the right track, but he admits he’d have taken a poorer performance against Atletico Madrid in return for the points.

Getafe fell to a 2-0 defeat at Vicente Calderon, Antoine Griezmann getting both goals, and Escriba lamented the options available to Diego Simeone.

“I’m not here to talk about Atletico but I do have to talk about something, their many alternatives in attack,” he said after the match, AS reports.

“The other day the two starters weren’t brilliant and were left out, and others in and the game was resolved.

“Fernando Torres wasn’t particularly brilliant against us, didn’t have his best game, but Angel Correa came in and he did well.

“I think broadly we were the better team. We lacked the ability to change the speed of the game, trying a pass over 40 metres instead of lots of passes over 20. I have nothing to reproach the players for.

“The defence lost sight of Griezmann for the second goal. The first is part of the game and there is nothing to reproach the players for. They did everything on the field.

“I’ve been here several times and had the feeling we wouldn’t score. On this occasion I thought we would have chances and in fact we did.

“I’d have preferred a worse game with a goal. The team is growing. We had chances and it shows we’re on the way, although we have many things to improve.”
