Cheryshev up for Ronaldo battle

Denis Cheryshev isn’t put off by the prospect of competing for a place with Cristiano Ronaldo in the Real Madrid side.

Cheryshev also confirmed Madrid inserted a buyout clause of €200m in his contract to ward off interested parties.

AS reports Cheryshev being asked if that was the case by Russian publication Sport Express, and the winger confirmed it is.

“Yes. It was decided by the club. It shows Madrid didn’t want anyone to sign me,” he acknowledged.

“There was interest [over the summer] and even a proposed transfer, but Madrid didn’t want to let me go.

“I realise Cristiano Ronaldo plays in my position but that doesn’t frighten me. When I get a chance, I’ll try to take it. I’m not afraid of anything.”
