Sergio wants Espanyol ‘adrenaline’

Sergio Gonzalez has demanded Espanyol to start the season “with adrenaline” ahead of Saturday's La Liga curtain-raiser against Getafe.

Los Periquitos have endured a difficult summer, with the likes of Sergio Garcia, Kiko Casilla and Hector Moreno all departing, but the Coach believes a positive pre-season has put his side in good stead for the new campaign.

“We hope to start the season with adrenaline after a good pre-season,” he said at a Press conference.

“I want to see a team who compete. We did well during pre-season, but only official matches count.

“A win would give momentum back to the team.

“[On my formation for the season], that would give many clues to our opponents.

“We have players who are suited [to 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1] and will reveal all [on Saturday].

“We have no doubt of [Antonio Raillo's] quality, and he's as nervous as anyone who makes their debut, but we hope to help him and that he feels unburdened.

“The other centre-backs are not 100 percent.

“[Getafe] are solid defensively, try to give their wingers space, have Alvaro [Vazquez], who has a good shot, in attack and [Fran] Escriba, who is a good Coach.

“[On Marco Asensio], I haven't thought about giving him his debut yet. It's best that he gets to know his teammates first.

“He has good ball control, creativity, potential, is capable of the unpredictable and good at one-on-ones.”
