Navas ready to fight for Madrid place

Keylor Navas isn’t willing to go quietly if Real Madrid sign David De Gea, vowing to fight for his place and his future.

The Costa Rica international has spent the season as back-up to Iker Casillas but could be third choice – or pushed out – should Los Blancos sign the Manchester United stopper.

But Navas, preparing to play with his national team against Spain, has said he will do whatever it takes to remain at Santiago Bernabeu and get into the starting XI.

“I always have respect for my teammates and I just try to do my best,” he said, Marca reports.

“I will fight. I don’t mind. I try to respect everyone but I want to get ahead.

“Hopefully next year will be better than this. I’m not a conformist or mediocre and I won’t change my goals.

“The more difficult the situation the more I like it. I don’t give up easily and I will fight to the end. I will fight to the death to be first choice.

“I’ve got five years on my contract and I’m told I’m a Madrid player. I’m going on holiday as a Madrid player.”

Navas also spoke about the coaching situation, both the now former boss Carlo Ancelotti and his likely successor Rafa Benitez.

“I didn’t want [Ancelotti to be sacked]. We all would have liked it if he stayed,” Navas admitted.

“Benitez is a great Coach. We know what he’s done worldwide. They are rumours, but if it becomes reality we’ll be calm, we’ll get together and hopefully it will be good for Madrid.”
