Franco: ‘Getafe need one more point’

Getafe boss Pablo Franco believes his team needs one more point to guarantee top-flight safety this season.

The Madrid outfit went down 2-0 at neighbours Rayo Vallecano on Monday night, a first-half own goal from Emiliano Velazquez and a Miku strike 17 minutes from time putting paid to their chances.

It was Getafe’s fifth consecutive defeat and leaves them five points clear of the relegation zone, although Franco insists his team are far from safe with two games remaining.

“The atmosphere in the dressing room is good and we must encourage the players because they know we need a point to achieve our objective,” he told a post-match Press conference.

“Our next game is against Eibar and it’s going to be final for us, one we need to win. The feeling is that if we go into it with the right attitude then that’s what we’ll do.”

Getafe had a Juan Rodriguez goal ruled out by referee Perez Montero in the second half, although Franco refused to point the finger at the officials.

“I couldn’t see from the bench whether he was in an illegal position or not. Our protests were because the decision was given so late,” he commented.
