Marcelino: Villarreal deserved win

Marcelino felt Villarreal “deserved more” from their goalless draw with Real Sociedad in La Liga on Saturday.

The Yellow Submarine have now won just one of their last 12 games following another stalemate, but the Coach is nonetheless proud of his players and believes they have coped well in light of their crippling injury list.

“I think we deserved more [from the game]. We did more to win the game than La Real, considering we played away from home.

“In the first half, we had some good chances. In the second half, they contained us but we still created some good chances.

“I’m extremely proud of our performance, taking into account the number of absences we had.

"When you work towards a big objective, you must suffer a lot for it. The statistics say we went several games without a win, but we’ve been good enough to win in that time.

“We’re feeling fine, playing good football and we must stay on this path.

“We’re a young team who have gained experience this season. The manner in which the team have competed has given me great satisfaction.

“We didn’t win [against Real], but we’re hard to beat and once we have our players back, we’ll have recovered our winning edge.”

“[In response to being invited for a beer after the game], David Moyes is a super-educated person, but my English… isn’t very good, and I don’t think his Spanish is either!”
