Musacchio suffers ankle break

Villarreal Coach Marcelino lamented Mateo Musacchio’s horrific ankle injury in the latter stages of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Getafe.

The Argentine defender went into a 50-50 with Diego Castro near the touchline at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez but turned his ankle.

He was then stretchered off and immediately taken to hospital in southern Madrid, where he is now due to undergo surgery.

“He’s suffered a very serious injury and we’ll have to wait and see how best to deal with it,” Marcelino said after the game.

“He left [the stadium] with the doctor for the hospital and it points towards a very bad injury.

“Fate sometimes plays tricks on you. Once this happens, you’re left with a very bad feeling and the rest of the game is of little importance.

“I hope the operation is a success and that he recovers well.”

Villarreal were heading towards their first away win of 2015 in La Liga when Ikechukwu Uche netted from the penalty spot, but they were ultimately denied by Diego Castro’s equaliser midway through the second half.
