Rodriguez eyes Getafe safety

Midfielder Juan Rodriguez believes three points against Deportivo la Coruna this weekend would go a long way to ensure Getafe top-flight safety.

El Geta meet Depor at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday knowing a win would take  them six points clear of the Galicians, who themselves are currently just one point outside the relegation zone.

“There are quite a few teams down there and it’s an important game for both of us,” Rodriguez told a Press conference.

“We want to make sure of safety as soon as possible because the days pass quickly and so do the games. We don’t want to be suffering near the end of the season and these are three vital points.

“It’s going to be an exciting game but we are playing at home in front of our fans. Although we couldn’t manage to beat Real Sociedad in our last game here we’ve felt comfortable and have been playing well, so hopefully we’ll get things right.”

The 33-year-old says it will be a special game for him against Depor, with whom he spent five years before joining Getafe in June 2011.

“I look forward to these matches as I do against Malaga, my first club, and playing against Depor will be a special occasion.

“I’ve got many friends there and I’ll be meeting them, which is always something I enjoy, but when we are on the pitch all that will be forgotten about,” he warned.
