Chelsea striker Diego Costa has left the Spain national squad after having his fitness assessed by doctors on Tuesday morning.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) have issued a statement confirming his withdrawal ahead of the games against Ukraine and the Netherlands.
“The striker has suffered a level one hamstring tear to the biceps femoris of the left thigh, which was previously already noted by the medical services of his club, whereby the medical staff at the RFEF recommend him not to take part in the national team’s next matches against Ukraine and the Netherlands.
“Diego Costa will return to Chelsea, where he will undergo the corresponding medical treatment,” it read.
