Sergio: ‘Goal will be key in Sevilla’

Espanyol boss Sergio Gonzalez feels the key to his side progressing to the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey will be scoring against Sevilla.

The Catalans hold a 3-1 advantage from the quarter-final first-leg at the Power8 Stadium, while Sergio is aware a goal against the Andalusians will go a long way to ensuring progress to the next round of the competition.

“If we score a goal it will be crucial as it will practically seal the tie,” he told a Press conference.

“However, we must use our heads and not go crazy. It could be handy for us that Sevilla are a team that sits back and tries to hit you on the counter-attack.

“We mustn’t lose the essence of what we’ve been doing because to change things would send out the wrong message.

“We are now very comfortable with our system and must know how to read this game well and realise what we are up against.

“The atmosphere in the Sanchez Pizjuan will be like an early final and that will lift Sevilla, but it should also mean our players are motivated rather than scared.”
