Florentino welcomes Lucas Silva

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has welcomed new signing Lucas Silva to the club by explaining the demands of playing for Los Blancos.

The 21-year-old midfielder arrived from Cruzeiro for a fee of €13m and, speaking at his presentation in front of 700 fans at the Santiago Bernabeu, Perez told him what it is like to be a Madrid player.

“You are arriving at a very important time of the season. You are one of the best midfielders in Brazil and I know your great desire is to be here,” said Perez.

“You were also a determining factor in Cruzeiro winning the title, while your strength, commitment and play has now been brought to Real Madrid, whose fans are some of the most demanding in the world.

“To wear this shirt is an honour and a privilege, but it is also a responsibility and from today you must give the maximum for it.

“The bond between the team and the supporters is our greatest strength. Our aims now are to win an 11th European Cup and a 33rd La Liga title.

“This season we have already won the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup, but that’s just the starting point to achieve more titles,” he affirmed.
