Sergio warns over Espanyol euphoria

Espanyol boss Sergio Gonzalez has warned of the dangers of getting carried away after seeing his team record a fourth successive victory.

Christian Stuani struck twice in the space of three minutes towards the end of the first half before Felipe Caicedo scored a fifth goal in four games after the break to help the Catalans to a comfortable 3-0 win over Almeria.

However, Sergio is calling for both players and fans to keep their feet firmly on the floor.

“We are enjoying a sweet moment but we mustn’t get carried away,” he told reporters post-match.

“I’m very happy the fans have come to the stadium and found their voices to get involved in the match, but we need to control the euphoria. We’ll let the supporters get excited and we’ll enjoy it, but calmly.

“The players are playing with a lot of confidence and have matured a lot, so they deserve everything. I wish we’d reached this point a little earlier but the progress we’ve made has been amazing, although somewhat slower than I thought.

“Those who have played in the Copa del Rey are making things difficult for the regulars and that always benefits the team. I’m delighted to be in this situation.”
