Moyes wary of Villarreal threat

Real Sociedad boss David Moyes admits he is wary of the danger posed by Villarreal in Wednesday’s Copa del Rey decider at Anoeta.

The Basques trail by a one-goal margin from last week’s first leg and the Scot has urged the fans to get behind their team as they seek a quarter-final spot against either Almeria or Getafe.

“We know it’s going to be a hard game because Villarreal are a good team but we must try and make home advantage count,” he told a Press conference.

“We need to score at least one or two goals to have a chance of going through, although I do think Villarreal are one of the better teams I’ve seen in Spain so far this season.

“We found it difficult against them in both our recent meetings so we need to try and cause them problems.

“The fans should come along and watch their team because of games like Real Sociedad 1 Barcelona 0, where we got a great result, so come and support us.”

La Real have been struggling to find the back of the net of late and Moyes conceded it is something that needs to be addressed.

“In every game we’ve tried to score more goals but we have to create more. We must take the chances we get as our style is to attack and score as many as we can, not defend, but if we are creating chances and not scoring we have to make sure we don’t concede.”

While maintaining a good run in the Copa del Rey would delight the fans, the former Everton and Manchester United manager insists the League is the priority.

“La Liga is our priority and it has to be. I don’t want any problems with relegation, as I’ve said all along, although I’d love to give the fans the chance to see us in a final.

“If we did get there it would be fantastic. But let’s not kid ourselves because we have some very big games coming up and there will be other very big teams to face to go all the way in this competition.

“I think we should be realistic but our hopes and dreams are that one day we can get to a Cup final,” he concluded.
