Ancelotti: No rush for renewal

Carlo Ancelotti says he is in no rush to renew his contract with Real Madrid as he is too busy focusing on the club’s upcoming fixtures.

The Italian is widely expected to pen a new deal with Los Blancos but says neither himself nor the European Champions are in any hurry to finalise matters.

“There’s no news regarding my contract renewal,” confirmed Ancelotti ahead of Madrid’s Champions League clash with Basel on Wednesday.

“We haven’t spoken about it because there’s no need to. We have a lot of games to concentrate on and that’s what we are doing.

“There is no hurry and it will all be sorted out in good time.”

Ancelotti is not expecting an easy task against the Swiss outfit, despite his team having the opportunity to equal the club record 15 consecutive victories set by former bosses Jose Mourinho and Miguel Munoz.

“It’s going to be an interesting game, as all Champions League games are. We’ll be attempting to secure top spot in our group while Basel have everything to play for, so I’m expecting it to be quite intense.

“The only important thing is that we play well. If this team has been able to reach the level it is at then it’s because we’ve prepared well in everything we do.

“But we are not thinking about the record. It’s important in terms of the history of the club, although we realise it’s something that can only be achieved if we do things well, as we have up until now.”

The 55-year-old says he has no problem motivating his players after they have swept all before them over the past couple of months.

“When things are going well everyone is happy and I’m happy doing my job. What does motivate us is trying to continue it and carry it on to our next games.

“It can be a problem, as maintaining this level over so many games is very difficult. It takes sacrifice and on a lot of hard work on the pitch to keep it going,” he added.
