Messi: Record beautiful, but…

Lionel Messi revelled in his 'beautiful' Champions League record, but maintained that Barcelona's win against APOEL was more important.

Just days after becoming La Liga's all-time top goalscorer, the Argentine netted during the Catalan giants' 4-0 victory on Tuesday to break Raul Gonzalez’s long-standing haul of 71 in Europe’s elite club competition.

"It's beautiful [to have beaten Raul], but the points were more important," he said after the match.

"I'm happy to have broken such a beautiful record in such an important competition, but most important were the three points we got. Barca played brilliantly.

"We will try to meet the objectives required of Barcelona and proceed down this path.

"It will be a tough game [against PSG]. We played in Paris and lost, and they have some very good players.

"They're a team who are growing and becoming stronger, but we'll try to put on a great performance and finish top of the group."
