Casillas nominated for FIFPro XI

Iker Casillas and Claudio Bravo have been nominated as La Liga's goalkeeping representatives for this year's FIFA FIFPro World XI.

The Real Madrid goalkeeper enjoyed a return to prominence in 2014, and he is now in the reckoning to claim the title he once held between 2008 and 2012.

Joining him from the Spanish top flight is the Barcelona No 1, who has been recognised for the first time following his impressive performances for Chile at this year's World Cup.

On the grounds of his contribution to Atletico Madrid's Liga triumph and run to the Champions League final last season, Thibaut Courtois is also selected.

Juventus and Italy custodian Gianluigi Buffon – the only player to feature at this stage of the award since its inception in 2005 – and last year's winner Manuel Neuer complete the five-man shortlist.

From the five ‘keepers, one will be selected to make the FIFA FIFPro World XI for 2014, which will be determined by a vote among players.

Defenders, midfielders and forwards eligible for this year’s vote will be announced in the coming days.
