Xavi Hernandez has congratulated Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi on becoming the all-time leading La Liga goal scorer.
Messi equalled Telmo Zarra’s haul of 251 with his first goal against Sevilla, surpassed it with his second and went further with his third, claiming a hat-trick in Barca’s 5-1 win.
“We are all very happy and it’s clear that Leo has achieved a brutal, historic record,” Xavi said, AS reports.
“I’ll take the words of the Coach. Messi is happy and if Messi is happy, so is Barcelona.
“Today we played a great game and we have seen a great Barca, a very complete performance.
“We certainly enjoyed playing our football today. We’ve seen the best Barca of the season and the best Messi. We have to continue on this path.
“The game required we press Sevilla in attack because they want to dominate the ball. We have to continue improving.
“There are 25 players and we’re all compatible. The Coach is responsible for picking who plays but we’re all compatible.”
