Lionel Messi says that of all the Champions League goals he has scored the ones in finals will always be the best.
The Argentine was speaking after equalling Raul’s record of 71 goals in the competition with a brace against Ajax at the Amsterdam Arena on Wednesday night.
“I’m not sure which was the best as no goal in particular comes to mind, but the ones in finals are always the best. I’ve always said that,” he told reporters.
Messi stressed the importance of the 2-0 win over the Dutch outfit as it eased Barca’s path into the next stage of Europe’s premier club tournament.
“It was a really important win that sees us through to the next round. It also helps in our aim of topping the group and we need to compete with Paris Saint-Germain in order to achieve that.
“Tonight we played against a team that plays good football, who can move you from side-to-side.
“We didn’t create as much pressure or control as we’d have liked but we took advantage of our chances. Until then it was very even,” he admitted.
Finally, he spoke of Luis Suarez’s adaptation to life at Barcelona, the Uruguayan having made his Champions League debut for the club against Ajax.
“We’re really happy Luis is here and bit-by-bit he is getting used to our philosophy, but it’s only his third game for us.
“We have great expectations for him and I’m sure he’ll be a huge asset,” maintained Messi.
