Marcelino focused on Zurich

Villarreal boss Marcelino insists he is totally focused on Thursday’s Europa League clash with FC Zurich at El Madrigal.

The Yellow Submarine go into the game knowing three points would put them in pole position to qualify for the next stage of the competition, something Marcelino admits he is eager to accomplish.

“The aim is to get to seven points in the group but it isn’t going to be easy because Zurich are a good side and it will require us to be at our very best.

“However, we want to make our home ground a fortress,” he told a Press conference.

Marcelino concedes it will be difficult to win the tournament, given the winners now earn an automatic pass into the Champions League.

“It will be tough to win the Europa League as everybody in Europe is now talking of it, so we must take things step-by-step and see if we have any luck with the draw,” he maintained, before confirming there will be changes to the team.

“We have to make good use of all the players in the squad and we are fortunate in that we have a group that are always keen to get involved.

“While it continues this way, with this ability to compete, we’ll keep utilising everybody.”
