Otamendi: Depor surprised us

Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi has confessed he was surprised at Deportivo la Coruna after losing 3-0 to the Galicians at the weekend.

Depor were bottom of the table going into the game while Los Che sat second to Barcelona, having remained unbeaten in the opening seven La Liga games.

However, the Argentine believes Valencia must not dwell on it and is already looking forward to the next game.

“We can’t take anything away from Depor as they surprised us and played well. When you lose second balls you make it very difficult for yourself and we didn’t create chances, which is something we are not used to.

“There are some games where things don’t go as you’d like and regrettably we lost. We were not good and now need to move forward.

“In football there is always another match very soon and we are already thinking about our next opponents Elche this Saturday,” he told a Press conference.

The 26-year-old feels the defeat at Riazor should serve as a good learning curve for the players.

“Everyone we play thinks Valencia is the team to beat, no matter who they are. This defeat is one more experience and should help us not to take anything for granted

“We should just go out to win games and must keep our feet on the floor,” he warned, before ruling Valencia out of the running for the title and insisting they must qualify for European competition.

“We realise the important thing is to take it one step at a time and having achieved good results does not mean we are candidates for the title.

“We are a young, new team and our first aim should be Europe.”
